ABOUT CGC

The Cyprus Gaming & Casino Supervision Commission is the responsible regulatory Authority for the supervision and control of land-based casino operations in the Republic of Cyprus. It was established by Casino and Control Law and aims to: a) license casino systems and employees in Cyprus casinos; b) ensure that casino gaming is conducted in a lawful, safe; and fair manner; c) identify and control the potential negative effects of gambling activity and properly address them. A priority of the Commission is the prevention and minimization of social risks that can be associated with gaming, in part delivered by supporting gamblers to be able to make informed decisions about their levels of responsible gambling and where necessary seeking specialist personal support

About “PHAROS CENTRE” for the Prevention and Treatment of Problematic and Pathological Gambling

“PHAROS CENTRE” for the Prevention and Treatment of Problematic and Pathological Gambling, was established under the initiative of CGC, to function as a synergy of the responsible government and non-government bodies for the provision of prevention and treatment where gambling activity has negative effects to those who gamble or their close environment. Moreover, the Centre reflects CGC’s vision and mission to effectively identify and address gambling harm by minimizing the gambling related risks, based on the legislation provisions and its Social Responsibility.

The operations of the Centre function or two pillars: a) The Prevention and Information which are provided by the Gaming and Casino Supervision Commission and b)The support, treatment and counselling which are provided by the National Addictions Authority in Cyprus through KENTHEA which is the operator of the programs.

“PHAROS CENTRE” is located at the Municipality of Agios Athanasios in Limassol, in a specifically selected and formed space provided by the municipality within its Social Responsibility and its’ collaboration with the Cyprus Gaming and Casino Supervision Commission.

Nicosia Development Agency also plays an important role in the management of the project due to future plans for expansion of the works of “PHAROS CENTRE” in Nicosia where the largest satellite casino is located.

HELPLINE 1422

The 1422 helpline operates daily from 9 A.M. until 7 P.M. anonymously and free of charge. The phone calls are handled by professional psychologists and social workers who have received relevant training. The citizens can receive support and counselling services for pathological gambling or encouragement methods and further details in order to help other people seeking for help.
The officers refer the interested parties to programs based on their own individual needs. The helpline is collecting only statistical data and it strictly adheres to the protection of personal data law.

The Cyprus National Addictions Authority (NAAC) is the supreme coordinating body of Cyprus in the field of legal and illegal addiction substances and pathological gambling and since November of 2017 consists the evolution of the Cyprus anti-narcotic council (2000).




KENTHEA is a Pancyprian, non-governmental and non-profit voluntary organization which is active in the fight against addictions. KENTHEA was founded in 1994 at a time when Cypriot society did not know a lot about addictions and managed to help Cypriots realize that the drug problem can knock their door regardless of the socio-economic level.



The Municipality of Agios Athanasios was at the beginning and until the middle of our century a small rural community that developed into a small village with a population of 400 inhabitants. Today it has a population of about 15,000 and is today one of the most fast developing areas of Limassol where more and more people chose to live. As part of its Social Responsibility program, among many other actions, the Municipality proudly supports the Faros Center.

Nicosia Development Agency was established on 16th December 2011 by the Municipalities of Greater Nicosia aiming at claiming available funds from European or other sources for the benefit of its members. It is an organization with a non-profit character, working towards the benefit of the wider interest and meets all the conditions of Directive 2004/18/EC, Article 1.9 concerning the designation of public equivalent bodies.
